Liverpool FC has today extended its youth football agreement in America which has seen the Reds working with their affiliate club in Texas for three years now. Through this association LFC’s partner club in Texas delivers boys and girls programmes across 140 youth teams, and 1,800 players between the ages of five and seventeen, from seven venues across the state.

Coach education is a key focus and each year coaches from the US visit the Academy in Liverpool for an intensive course in the Liverpool way, bringing them up to speed on the Club’s youth coaching philosophy which has seen so many exceptional young players graduate through the system over the years. Former Reds player Jimmy Melia works as a senior coach out in Texas, proving to be a fantastic ambassador for the Club and a source of inspiration for the young players. Coaches from LFC’s International Academy also visit Texas each summer to pass on their expertise on the ground.

The project, which initially covered Texas and now extends to South Carolina, provides a unique opportunity for young players to learn to play the Liverpool way in America. The focus is now on growth and recruitment of further expansion clubs as Liverpool FC continues to spread the message even further across the USA.

Liverpool FC Ambassador, Ian Rush commented: “It’s great to see the fantastic work that is taking place over in America where these young players are getting a unique opportunity to learn to play the Liverpool way. There is a huge opportunity for the Club to help develop the grassroots game around the world and this is just a great example of that. We will continue to deliver these excellent coaching programmes, welcoming both players and coaches in America to be part of the LFC family.”

“Liverpool FC has many fans in America and they will be pleased to know that the Club is helping to develop the grassroots game in their country.” he added.

Through the unique coaching methods of Liverpool FC, there will be a continued focus on technical development of players on the pitch as well as improving the key life skills of the young players in the USA, such as communication, team work, leadership and confidence.

Peter Brody, Chief Executive Officer at LFC International Academy Texas, commented: “We are delighted to have extended our partnership with the Club today. We aim to continue to deliver excellent programmes for all our players, not only here in Texas and South Carolina, but further afield as our operation expands to other states across America. We have made huge progress to become the largest youth club in Texas in a short space of time and look forward to achieving further success whilst working with LFC in the future.”
